FIFA (Federation of Association soccer) – History

The governing body of international soccer FIFA was formed on May 21, 1904 in Paris, capital of France, for making improvements in the game of soccer. The full form of word FIFA is the ‘Federation International de soccer Association’ which is the French name given to governing body. But English people name it as International Federation of Association soccer and abbreviated it as FIFA. A team of delegates from different countries like Denmark, France, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland was signed the foundation act. Robert Guerin of France was elected as the first president of FIFA just after the two days of its foundation.

The first soccer competition was hosted by FIFA in 1906, which was not turned out as a very successful event. In 1908’s Olympics FIFA Performed in a much better specified way than the organization’s first attempt.

Earlier European nations were the only who had been the part of federation but In 1909 South Africa joined the organization after Argentina and Chile, then 1 year later by united states and Canada.

The First World War hit hard the game of soccer which forced many players sent off due to war. After the First World War European countries like England, Scotland and Ireland quitted the federation, as they did not want to play or participated with their enemies of First World War.

Under the presidency of FIFA’s third president Mr. Jules Rimet’s FIFA boasted with 85 members. The UK countries returned back to FIFA due to diplomatic skills and efforts of Mr. Rimet’s, who later retired at the age of 80.

FIFA celebrated its 50 year anniversary in 1955 when rodolphe Williams seeldravers of Belgium was the fourth president. He died in the same year on 7th October 1955. 

The sixth world cup hosted well in Stockholm under the presidency of sixth president (Mr. Arthur drewry) FIFA become much financially strong, when sir stanley Rous ruled as the 6th president for the federation. The seventh president Dr. Joao Havenlange was from Brazil. In 1988 FIFA begins to take globalization shape under the guidance of Joseph s. Blatter of Switzerland. And now FIFA is successfully organizing the soccer world cup in order to strive the entire game the best it can be.
